The artist Tommy Gallagher is the product of a white American hearing father, Asian immigrant deaf mother, the DC metropolitan area, and public schools under the Reagan administration. A recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (where he studied illustration and industrial design), Gallagher infuses his work with his unique cultural perspective, a drawing-intensive illustrative style, and a conceptual approach steeped in the ethnographic and heuristic research methods of the industrial design field. Winner of a design competition with Motorola in 2003, Gallagher was part of an exhibition featuring his own and his sister’s work at Washington DC’s DCAC gallery this past January.
